This creamy potato and sausage chowder is a hearty and comforting meal perfect for chilly evenings. It’s packed with flavor and easy to make, making it a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casings
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 4 cups Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the sausage over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chicken broth and cubed potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  4. In a separate small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk the milk into the roux until smooth and thickened.
  6. Pour the milk mixture into the potato and sausage mixture. Stir in the heavy cream.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes, allowing the chowder to thicken.
  9. Stir in the chopped parsley before serving.
