Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (such as Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed (or maple syrup for a refined sugar-free option)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped apples in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. Add the water, brown sugar (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to the slow cooker.
  3. Stir well to combine.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, or until the apples are very soft.
  5. Once the apples are cooked, use an immersion blender to blend the applesauce to your desired consistency. Alternatively, you can use a potato masher for a chunkier texture.
  6. Stir in the lemon juice.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a sprinkle of granola for a satisfying snack or dessert. For a smoother applesauce, blend for a longer period of time. You can also add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
