Classic Baked Potato

Enjoy a perfectly fluffy and satisfying baked potato, a versatile side dish or light meal. Top with your favorite ingredients for a customized culinary experience.

  • 1 large russet potato
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, bacon bits, chives, chili

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Scrub the potato clean and pat dry.
  3. Pierce the potato several times with a fork.
  4. Rub the potato with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  5. Place the potato directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the potato is easily pierced with a fork and feels soft when squeezed.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  8. Cut a slit in the top of the potato and fluff the inside with a fork.
  9. Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra crispy skin, rub the potato with coarse salt before baking. You can also bake the potato in the microwave for quicker cooking, but the skin won’t be as crispy.
